Create A Sub-Site
Monday, 27 March 2006

Some organizations may have an arm or affilate to their organization that they would like to feature on their web site indirectly.

One way to do this is to create a sub-site. Here's how.

First, create a menu for the sub site.
From the back end of your site go to:  Menu > Menu manager

Click the new button.

Type in a menu name (no spaces or special characters).

Type in menu title (user friendly name – can have have spaces).

Click the save button.

You have now created a menu.

Now, decide on placement of menu.

go to modules > site modules.

Find the module with the name you just created (the user friendly one).  publish this module and customize position as you like.  (in most of our templates you can only choose right or left).

Next, create content to go into the subsite.   (See the instructions in the tutorialCreate A Static Content Page & Menu Item).

Name the first Content Item and Menu Link, "Home", because it will serve as the Home page for your subsite.  Link it to the menu you created.

Create additional content items and menu links for the subsite.

You can make these additional items sub-menu items if you like so that they won't show until you click on Home on your subsite.  To do this go to:  Menu > (submenu name).   Put all your additional menu items under the parent item Home.

To make your subsite take on its own identity, you can choose a new template for it. Likewise you can create a new header for your subsite. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it at TWH for template options and header development.

Tip:  You may change the order of your sub-site module (perhaps it is at the top of the side column and you would like it lower) by going to Modules > Site Modules.

Change the order number in the Order box. Then click the order icon to save the change.

Go to the front end of your site.  Refresh the page and see if the order is how you like it.
